Monetary sanctions collected by CIRO in its Restricted Fund may be used by CIRO for specified purposes including education and research projects, and the administration of CIRO hearing panels, the Investor Advisory Panel and the Office of the Investor.
CIRO may also provide funding to external organizations, who meet specified criteria, for projects focused on protecting or educating investors. We are currently accepting applications from organizations who meet the funding criteria. We encourage those who are interested in applying to review the criteria and application process outlined below.
CIRO intends to use monetary sanctions to fund initiatives that are consistent with the specified purposes set out in the CIRO Recognition Order. These include proposals:
In particular, CIRO is interested in receiving applications for education and investor protection initiatives that are focused on underserved communities or vulnerable investors. This may include but is not limited to lower income Canadians, racialized Canadians, youth, new Canadians, seniors, members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, women, Canadians with disabilities and others.
CIRO aims to fund diverse initiatives across Canada in different provinces and communities and to fund initiatives that align with CIRO’s strategic plan and priorities.
The grants that CIRO intends to provide organizations to fund projects typically will not exceed $100,000.
While CIRO appreciates the efforts of all applicants, consideration by CIRO as to whether to accept and provide funding for proposals during any given year will be at CIRO’s discretion and will depend on several factors including, but not limited to, the availability of the noted funding, the quality of the application, as well as its adherence to the criteria noted above.
Applicants who have reviewed the criteria above and would like to apply should complete the Restricted Fund Application Form and submit their proposal to officeoftheinvestor@ciro.ca.
All applications must be received prior to March 31, 2025.
If you have questions about the application process that aren’t addressed on this page please contact officeoftheinvestor@ciro.ca.
